December 28, 2009.

We live near the crossroads of 130th Avenue SE and SE 47th Place in Bellevue, not far from St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church. Bordering this area is Coal Creek Parkway to the southwest of us and the Alaskan Way Pipeline green belt to the east of us. Wild animals crossover Coal Creek Parkway and travel along the greenbelt. My neighbor saw the bobcat a few weeks ago cross 130th Avenue SE at night. I thought I'd do a little research and discovered to my great surprise the bobcat is indeed living around here.

Great post! I would like to gently remind your readers of one important fact about decks in the Pacific NW:

If you're not willing to keep up with the maintenance and care of a deck (especially wood decks) you might consider another investment in your home.

My experience as a home owner and Realtor have convinced me that, more often than not, homeowners end up neglecting their decks and, when it comes time to sell the house, they end up being a huge liability. You haven't lived until you've gone through an inspection only to discover that the deck (if connected to the house) has rotted right into the home itself or that huge portions of the deck have deteriorated and the cost of repair runs into thousands of dollars (or more!).

Decks are certainly one of the most useful and aesthetically pleasing additions to a home or property but like any other investment, they need proper care and feeding to maintain their value.
