Add Geoffrey Castle to your to-do list

Posted by Susan Moore No Comments »

A few years ago, some friends and I stumbled upon an amazing violin/fiddle player named Geoffrey Castle at a church in Sand Point.  This is music and a performance anyone would enjoy, no matter what your taste in music.  It’s described as rocking-out with a fiddle.  The music is awesome and the show (he tends to get pretty into it) is engaging.  Click on Geoffrey Castle’s picture to see what I mean.  This is music, in my opinion, that ANYONE could like.  He puts on quite a show too.   2009-06-25_0825 by you.

Looking For Community Volunteers

Posted by Susan Moore No Comments »

VOICE Mentoring Program  (Volunteers Of Issaquah Changing Education)

The VOICE Mentor Program is looking for community volunteers to work one on one with Issaquah students.  These students are referred by teachers and counselors as needing extra support whether it is academic, social or emotional.  The Volunteer commitment is one hour per week through the school year.  The Volunteers work in the school setting in partnership with the school staff.  Volunteers routinely state that they make a strong bond with their student and “get more than they give.”  We strive to make the students and mentors time together meaningful and valued.

Placements are made based on the mentors’ interests.  Whether a mentor’s passion is literacy, ESL students, math or another area, we have a place for you in Issaquah schools.  Please help recruit your neighbors, friends, relatives or colleagues to become a mentor.

For further information contact:  Susan Gierke, VOICE Mentor Director  E-mail:  VOICE @issaquah.wednet.edu   Phone: 425-837-7139  VOICE is funded by the Issaquah Schools Foundation in cooperation with the Issaquah School District

The tax credit appears headed for some type of extension

Homebuyer Tax Credit Plan Agreed to by U.S. Senate Democrats !

If it passes, the proposal would:

 1)    First time Homebuyers qualify for $8,000.  Current homeowners qualify for a $6,500 credit if they have lived in their residence for five years.  Both must be in contract by April 30, 2010 and close by June 30th, 2010.

 2)    The income limits will go up (if it passes) to individuals earning up to $125,000, or $250,000 for couples, up from $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for couples under the current law.

 3)    The plan would extend the credit, due to expire Nov. 30, to home purchases under contract by April 30, 2010, with borrowers allowed another 60 days to close the sale

last minute halloween costume ideas

Posted by Susan Moore No Comments »

Well I went to a halloween party last Friday, and of course waited till the last minute to pull my halloween costume out of the old box in the closet.  That party was several years ago so my advice? Dont wait till the last minute to try these things one.  I grabbed some scissors and with a few alterations, flew out the door. When I got there it was evident that most people had put quite a bit of thought into it.  Lets face it, the ones who always win the halloween costume contests are always home made costumes.  So now, with another party to go to tomorrow night, I decided I needed to step it up to a better costume. I started searching the internet for “Last Minute Costumes“.  Here’s a few I found that were good, but if you have any good suggestions or pictures, pass them on … quickly!

Really Quick ideas- Funny but maybe not enough to win the contest…

  • * Dress in pink and carry a feather. What are you? Tickled pink.
  • * Dress all in black, tie a shot glass around your neck. What are you? A shot in the dark!
  • * Wear all black and put a postage stamp (enlarged if possible) on your chest. What are you? Black mail.
