Tips for Selling – and a stress free move:

1. Get organised in way in advance. Use these winter months to do your usual “spring cleaning”. Leaving everything until the last minute will triple your amount of remorse and stress.  Maximise this opportunity to minimize. There’s no point in keeping too much stuff if you’re making a big move. Become more of a minimalist and get rid of all the possessions that are compromising your freedom.

2. Catalogue your personal paperwork. Create a mobile file cabinet for essential documents like passports, birth certificates, receipts, and other certificates and keep them all together. Sort personal photos – put them in albums or plastic shoe boxes and toss all the blurred and boring ones. Get the kids to do the same with their personal items.

3. Get rid of non-essential items first - months before you leave. Toys, tools, kitchen equipment, many clothes and everything that’s broken, or that you never use but have been saving for a rainy day.  Pack away holiday items, kitchen items, and only take the ones you can’t live without.  This is a time to get rid of the platter that was quickly pushed to the back of the closet when you purchased a better one on your trip to Italy.

4. Have an on-line garage sale.  Make a list of everything you want to sell but need to keep until you leave: furniture and big electrical items such as the fridge, washing machine, stereo and dryer.  Email all your friends.  Ask them to swing by on moving day and pick it up. Now you have a few extra hands to bring a box or two on their way out!

5. Sale for smaller items. Finally, have that garage sale or Donate your old clothes, toys, crockery and books to a worthy cause, or your favorite charity. By now your house, cupboards and garage should be looking nice and empty which will make cleaning easier.

6. Have a good clean up or use some of your garage sale money to hire a cleaner.

Boom! You’re ready to sell!

With less clutter tying you down, your have just bought your freedom.  Trust me, it’s a delightful feeling not being weighed down by all this stuff you are “responsible” for.

You’ll enjoy the process of clearing out and moving house. Your friends will will get a great deal on your special items and its always a great compliment to later see your things in the home of your friends.

Trust me, this will tremendously reduce the stress of moving.
