Join your Newcastle Bartell Drugs as they launch the “Stock the Pantry” food drive. Bartells and Northwest Harvest will be accepting nonperishable food donations at all 55 Bartell Drug locations from June 1 to June 14.
“Stock the Pantry” Food Drive June 1-14: helping to feed out-of-school children and their families during summer months
This two-week food drive is especially important to help Northwest Harvest replenish food stocks during summer months–when families that normally depend on free or reduced-price school meals may struggle to provide those meals at home.
-
- Some “kid-friendly” food item suggestions include tuna, instant oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, cheese crackers, applesauce and canned fruit in individual serving sizes.
- For more information check Bartell Drugs
- Bring any donations you can make to our local Newcastle Bartell’s

A trail work party is scheduled for this Saturday, organized by the Newcastle Trails nonprofit organization. Please see below for more information:
TRAIL WORK PARTY, Saturday, May 23, 9AM-noon & noon-3. Stay for either shift or drop in any time between 9AM and 3PM. Get in some healthy exercise in the leafy glade just north of the old cemetery, where you’ll finish resurfacing a short stretch of the CrossTown Trail with crushed rock. As turnout and time permits, you’ll be digging a new drainage channel, improving the trail through the School Woods, and/or improving the lower Olympus Trail. This is a “feel-good” project that will visibly improve some of the most-used trail segments in Newcastle. Come and bring your friends. We plan to meet on 129th Ave SE near the historic Newcastle Cemetery (north side). Trail tools will be provided (plus gloves and water – or bring your own); wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Contact: Peggy Price at 425-829-2196 (cell) or info@newcastletrails.org.

Last night marked the opening of ladies night (Golf) at The Golf Club at Newcastle. All skill levels are welcome and trust me, most of us are considered beginners. The comfort level became instantly welcoming as we each made our own clumsy mistakes in between beautiful shots with the help of some expert instruction. Peggy, (our neighbor from Newcastle Fruit Market), Adam, and several other coaches for all skill levels helped with with our grip, stance, swing, weight transfer, and oh so many other pointers I received that my head hurts – along with todays back aches! There are more dates coming up, all on Tues nights from 6-8 pm, and still lots of room. What a great combination of things for a simple and fun evening out.

Click here for more info on Ladies Night . Did I mention that there is wine??

Pending sales of single-family homes in King County surged in April
The Northwest Multiple Listing Service reported Tuesday that pending single-family home sales in King County topped 2,000 in April, the first month that level has been reached since August 2007.
Pending sales — offers that have been accepted, but haven’t yet closed — were up 25 percent from March, and up nearly 15 percent from April 2008.
Sales numbers were even stronger in Snohomish County, up 28 percent year over year.
Brokers said homes at the lower end of the price spectrum accounted for a disproportionate share of the surge, as did sales to first-time buyers. Click here to read more…. By Eric Pryne Seattle Times
In Newcastle:
* You saw that 19 homes went pending in February ~ 14 of those homes have successfully closed, 3 are still pending, 2 returned to active
* In April, 24 homes went Pending ~ 20 of those are still Pending or have Sold (4 have failed to close and returned to Active)
** So far 15 homes have gone Pending in May… with still 12 more days to go… stay tuned for statistics on recent listing prices vs. resulting sales prices for April.
Things are looking up!

I’m sure most of you have been by Newcastle’s Fruit Market since it’s opening two weeks ago. How can you resist? All those fresh fruits and vegetable, but don’t forget the fantastic flowers and plants that they have. I was running to meet a friend for lunch the other day and remembered she had a birthday coming up. Buying someone an exotic or blooming plant can be a pleasant gift and one of those things we don’t always splurge on for ourselves, (although we should). Introduce yourself to Susan who is new to the Market this year, and has an extensive background in horticulture. She can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about each plant there. I left with an amazing Palm that I knew would bring her reminiscent feelings of our trip to Mexico. What could be better? The Market offers fresh and organic produce so stop by and say hi to Peggy, (pictured below). This is Peggy’s 3rd year at the market, and just so you know, she also teaches golf lessons up at Newcastle Golf Course and she says that the ladies nights are quite a “giggle”. That sounds fun….
